Robert E. Greene, the pastor of Gospel Independent Baptist Church, was born on January 8, 1967 into the family of Robert and Ada Greene in Henderson, NC. Pastor Greene, the youngest of three siblings, grew up on the family’s dairy farm where he learned the value of hard work.
"And the Lord God said, it is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him" (Genesis 2:18 KJV). Pastor Greene married Barbara Twisdale on June 28, 1986. Barbara stands with Pastor Greene as a faithful, loving, God-fearing wife and helpmeet in his ministry. God has blessed their home with three sons: Chase, Cam, and Cody.
In 1990, Pastor Greene began his employment with Carolina Handling, Inc. Through the discipleship of James Wilson, the branch manager, Pastor Greene learned how to be born again. God used His word and the witness of Mr. Wilson to bring deep conviction in the heart of Pastor Greene. On August 3, 1990, Pastor Greene trusted Jesus Christ to come into his heart and become his personal Lord and Savior.
In 1991, Pastor Greene announced God’s call to preach the Gospel and the Lord began opening doors. Pastor Greene completed his formal education at the Faith Baptist Institute in Resaca, GA and Clarksville Theological Seminary in Clayton, NC.
Pastor Aubrey Florence led Pastor Greene’s ordination service at Eastside Baptist Church on November 1, 1995. As the Assistant Pastor for Pastor Florence, Pastor Greene continued his Christian education. Gospel Independent Baptist Church of Henderson, NC voted Pastor Greene in as their pastor on April 11, 1999.
Pastor Greene’s life verse is I Corinthians 1:18 "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." Through his encouraging, straightforward preaching, Pastor Greene motivates believers and presents the Word of God to people who need Jesus Christ as the Savior and guide of their lives. Pastor Greene’s motivation to lead Gospel Independent Baptist Church is to see the lost come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and to see the saved develop a deeper relationship with their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
